Lot 4535
Commemorative Series, 330-354. Follis (Bronze, 16 mm, 2.24 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation of an issue from Treveri, irregular mint, after 330. CONSTANT-NOPOIS Helmeted, laureate and mantled bust of Constantinopolis to left, holding scepter over her left shoulder. Rev. TRS She-wolf standing left, suckling Romulus and Remus; above, two six-pointed stars; in exergue, TRS. Cf. RIC 523-4 (for possible prototype). Minor roughness, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

This 'barbarous' imitation is a mule, with a Constantinopolis obverse and a 'VRBS ROMA' reverse. The slightly blundered style and the errors in the legend reveal its unofficial origin.
